The microforest at Celery Fields was the first project taken on by SURF. This volunteer-made microforest will soon mature into a grown mini-forest. This new landscape will have many benefits to the Celery Fields landscape. The microforest at Celery Fields is composed of native plants and trees. The area will increase biodiversity for Celery Fields park, which will create new habitats for animals around the area. The forest will attract new birds to nest in the area which will be beneficial for bird watchers in the area. Microforests in general have many environmental benefits such as carbon sequestration and natural water filtration. The microforest at the Celery Fields was a stepping stone in creating sustainable, environmentally friendly areas that will help combat climate change and environmental related issues in our local community.
